For the dude who has to go to the office, but would rather be riding his horse, this Basswood desk set makes a great Father’s Day gift. Basswood Country Rounds will give his desk a touch of rustic ranch style while helping him stay organized. This project features the large 11″ wide Walnut Hollow Basswood Round for the paper tray and the medium 7″ wide Walnut Hollow Basswood Round for the pencil cup and frame.
Use the Walnut Hollow Creative Versa-Tool® to burn an outline of a circle, just a tad larger than a ceramic pencil cup (this cup was a garage sale find). Glue the cup to the wood, inside the circle. The dark outline of the circle makes the cup look more like it’s built in.
Next, attach a little metal tag with a sentiment to the wood and leave a space for a small standing picture frame. This is a great place for Dad to display a photo of the family or of his favorite vacation spot.
To create the paper tray, you’ll need a Large Walnut Hollow Basswood Country Round and three cabinet drawer pulls. The three cabinet drawer pulls will create the rails for the paper tray – the basswood is pretty soft, making it easy to attach hardware to the wood with screws and without pre-drilling. Position the two side rails a bit wider than letter-size paper to accommodate larger envelopes or file folders.
This desk set was super quick and easy to make – you could use a third round to make a matching clock or a plaque with a motivational quote. Everyone’s workspace needs a little charm and personality – a handmade desk set is a great gift for any man in your life.
