Like so many of you, I try my best to start out the year with better organization! I decided to tackle my kids’ rooms first and help them organize their sports medals, hats, and other accessories. I used Walnut Hollow wood clocks to create sports ball wall hooks that not only look great but will also help keep things off the floor and organized on the wall!
Supplies:
- Walnut Hollow 13″ Wood Clock
- Wood Knob
- Americana Chalky Finish Paint in Everlasting and Cameo
- DecouPage medium
- Vinyl and Cutting Machine or template
- Sawtooth hangers
Step one: Paint the wood clocks with the desired color paint. I painted the soccer ball and baseball surfaces with the white Everlast paint, and the basketball surface with Cameo chalky finish paint.
Step two: Paint the wood knobs the same colors as the clock surfaces.
Step three: Use your electronic cutting machine to cut the vinyl to create the ball designs. I used my Silhouette and this cut file to cut the vinyl. Weed the vinyl and attach the cut pieces to the painted clock surface.
(Note: If you do not have a cutting machine you can use a template like the one I linked to in the supply list above to hand cut vinyl.)
Step four: Use Decoupage to seal the vinyl to the painted surface. This step is optional, but I wanted to make sure the vinyl didn’t peel off the hook after repeated use.
Step five: Attach the painted wood knobs to the clock using the provided hardware. I found inexpensive $1 knobs at the hardware store and the screw that came with it was the perfect size for the Walnut Hollow clock.
Step six: Attach a sawtooth hanger to the back of the finished piece so you can hang it on a wall.
These sporty wall hooks can be arranged as a grouping or spread out. You can easily change the color to match any decor! Have fun crafting, creating, and getting organized with Walnut Hollow DIY projects like these sports themed wall hangers.
