Adult coloring is a wonderfully relaxing trend right now, but what can you do with all of those beautifully colored pages? Create home décor items, like my Coloring Page Decorated Rustic Pallet Birdhouse, the perfect way to greet visitors at your front door or gate.
By selecting a bright and Springy color palette of yellows, oranges, pinks and purples, this daisy design by designer friend, Debra Valencia leaps off the page. Customize your home décor items with designs that you have colored to represent a season, like Spring or to coordinate with the colors in your home.
The possibilities are truly endless!
Materials and Supplies:
- Walnut Hollow Rustic Pallet Birdhouse
- Walnut Hollow 1.5″ Wooden Letters – SPRING
- Americana acrylics by DecoArt – Foliage Green, Petal Pink and Tangelo Orange
- Color Pencils, Liquid Glue, Metal Flower; Pink and Orange Butterflies; Paint brush; pencil; hand held pencil sharpener; ruler; craft knife; self healing mat; emory board; bone folder; sawtooth picture hanger.
Step One: Base coat Walnut Hollow Rustic Pallet Birdhouse roof and base with Americana paint by DecoArt in Foliage Green. Remember to paint the sides and back as well. Set aside to dry. Apply a second coat, if necessary. Base coat the Walnut Hollow 1.5” Wooden Letters SPRING with Americana paint by DecoArt in Petal Pink and Tangelo Orange, alternating colors and letters.
Step Two: While your paint is drying, color your page with Color Pencils.
Step Three: Cut out your coloring page to fit in the house section of the Rustic Pallet Birdhouse. To cut out the peak, place your coloring page down on the birdhouse and rub gently with your fingernail (or a bone folder) along the lines between the house and the roof. Repeat with the line along the bottom of the birdhouse between the house and base. Use these creases as your guidelines for cutting, on a self healing mat with a craft knife a ruler.
Step Four: Apply an even coat of Liquid Glue with the broad tip and adhere your coloring page to the house section of the Rustic Pallet Birdhouse. Burnish gently with flat cap of the glue bottle to make sure that you have a solid bond and have removed any air bubbles. Let dry.
Step Five: Flip over the Rustic Pallet Birdhouse on a self-healing mat and cut out the birdhouse hole with a craft knife. Smooth any rough or uneven edges with an emory board.
Step Six: Adhere the Walnut Hollow 1.5″ Wooden Letters spelling SPRING to the base of the Rustic Pallet Birdhouse with Liquid Glue, which has a quick grab. Attach metal flower and pink butterfly to roof. Attach orange butterfly to base. Attach sawtooth picture hanging hardware to center back of Rustic Pallet Birdhouse.
I just love the orange, pink and yellow color combination on the bright green Rustic Pallet Birdhouse! It will really add a much needed POP of color on my front gate. Maybe it will even beckon Spring to arrive a bit earlier. What is YOUR favorite color combination for Spring?
