RELAX

By Chris Wallace for Walnut Hollow

Take a deep breath…once again…..now R-E-L-A-X. I’m not speaking for everyone, but many of us do not do this enough. We get caught up in the rat-race of life and forget to RELAX.

This home décor piece is a reminder and provides inspiration for us to remember to relax. I used one of the NEW Rustic Pallet pieces now available – Rustic Pallet, 8” x 30”.

Use a large flat brush to paint the entire Rustic Pallet and each 5” Letter with DecoArt® Americana Décor®,  Chalky Finish. I used Serene for the Pallet and Delicate for each Letter. I love this paint! It’s so easy to apply and no need to seal the paint prior to using.

IMG_2296

Once everything is thoroughly dry, use a sanding block or an electric sander to begin the process of a worn or vintage look. Sand all the way down to the raw wood here and there!

IMG_2298

Use the Crème Wax in Deep Brown to antique the Pallet and Letters. Apply the Wax with a large flat brush and remove the excess with a soft cloth. Once all is dry, you can buff everything with a clean soft cloth.

IMG_2299Now it’s time to adhere the Letters to the Pallet. The best product to use is the Tombow® Power Adhesive Tabs. Place a few Power Tabs on the back of each Letter, peel off the little paper and press in place on the Pallet.

What I love about the look you achieve with the Chalky Finish on the Rustic Pallet pieces is that the wood still looks “rustic”, but the sanding makes it smooth to the touch. Perfect!

#TBT – Christmas Goodies

Last year for the Handmade Holidays 2013 Blog Hop, I made one of my favorite projects using Graphic 45 beautiful papers. It is such a great idea and so easy to create that I wanted to share it again this year. Make something special to put in your jars and be ready to give them away when friends stop by for a Christmas visit.

Enjoy again………..

I love giving friends who visit our home something to take with them when they leave – especially during the Holidays. So, it was easy to decide what I would make to share with you for our Handmade Holidays Hop. Walnut Hollow® has a new shelf/ledge called Rustic Wood Ledge that I really like.

supplies

It’s reversible. Turn it so you can put something in it and it becomes a perfect holder for mason jars filled with goodies. The new line of Christmas paper and accessories from Graphic 45 – 12 Days of Christmas was perfect for a rustic handmade look with a touch of elegance!

Christmas Shelf

I began by basecoating the outside of the Ledge with Tattered Angels Glimmer Glam – Organic Garden.

green outside

It is best to use a fan brush to apply the paint so you can scoop up the glitter than falls to the bottom of the jar. The inside of the Ledge is base coated with Smooches Glimmer Glam with the same brush.

Paint inside

While the paint is drying, cut the paper the beautiful Graphic 45 Twelve Days of Christmas paper – Joyeux Noel – to fit the front of the Ledge.

add paper

I cut the paper in strips to get the design I wanted. To adhere the paper to the Ledge, I used Tombow® MONO Multi Liquid Glue. This glue will give you the extra adhesion needed due to the glitter in the paint used.

I used red tulle to add ties to the jars and the Ledge.

tulle bows

Whether on the jar or on the Ledge, just tie a square knot with the tulle and clip the edges with scissors. I used Tombow® Power Tabs to adhere each Prima paper flower to the Ledge – Power Tabs are great for any embellishment. Tabs also were used to tuck red tulle ties in and around the flowers.

To add the Graphic 45 12 Days of Christmas Tags and Pockets to each jar, use thin green ribbon tied to the red tulle.

Hope you enjoyed a second look……..come back tomorrow, we have a new blog you’ll really enjoy!

Walnut Hollow Crafts | Being Thankful

IMG_2219

Suzanne Cannon’s calligraphy is truly beautiful and I’m “being thankful” that she made this Set for us to use.

IMG_2168IMG_2170

I used the Walnut Hollow Chippendale Plate and the Circle Thin Mini Plaque for my surface. The DecoArt Americana Chalky Finish, Vintage was perfect to enhance the colors of the wonderful Graphic 45 Botanical Tea Collection, Birds of a Feather paper. I used a large flat brush to basecoat both the Plate and the Circle with Vintage Chalky Finish. The paint is so thick and creamy, you’ll only need one coat. After the paint is thoroughly dry, lightly sand everything with fine sandpaper.

IMG_2173

I used Tombow® Xtreme Adhesive to adhere the paper to the center of the Plate.

To die cut the scallop circles, I used Spellbinders® Classic Scallop Circles with a matching blue and ivory cardstock.

IMG_2172

Using Clearsnap® Colorbox® Mudslide with a sponge applicator, I created more of a vintage look on all of the papers as well as the plate itself.

IMG_2174

I used the same ink pad to stamp the sentiments: “Being Thankful” on the ivory paper, “for family”, “for friends”, “for blessings” and “for you” around the Plate.

IMG_2178

To adhere the Circle Plaque to the Plate, I used Tombow® Power Tabs – they will do a great job of holding the wood plaque to the paper.

Now it’s just a matter of display – you can hang it on a wall, or place it on an easel. Either way it’s a welcome addition to any home décor. For the Fall Thanksgiving Holiday or year round.

Shield Plaque

I LOVE Tombow products so I was really excited to get another opportunity to Blog Hop with them! I decided to create a rustic wall piece using the Walnut Hollow Shield Plaque.

I started out by sanding the wood with a hand sander. I base coated the Shield Plaque with Americana Chalky finish paint in “Timeless”- a light cream color. Using a 1″ wide flat paint brush I brushed on the Chalky Finish paint. One coat covers the wood nicely and the paint dries with a matte finish. The chalky finish gives a nice shabby chic feel to the project. Once the first layer was dry, I took a bar of clear wax and rubbed it on the plaque. I went over random areas of the surface.

1

I then covered the main flat surface (not the edge) of the plaque with Americana Chalky finish paint in “Vintage”. I used a wide flat brush and pulled the paint towards me, lightly brushing it over the ridges on the side of the plaque. (Not covering the whole edge). This gave it a vintage feel.

2

Once that coat was dry, I sanded back the places that I had rubbed the wax on. The blue paint came off easily revealing the “Timeless” coat underneath.

I printed my Deer Silhouette and backed it with card stock. I used scissors to cut out the shape. The edges of my deer silhouette were white because of the thick card stock backing. I rubbed some ink along the side of the deer to darken the edges of the paper. I then planned out where I wanted all of the embellishments on my plaque.

3

I used Tombow Power Tabs to stick my Doily to the center of the plaque.

4

I used Tombow Foam tabs to adhere the Silhouette. The Foam tabs are VERY sticky and provided some lift and dimension to the Deer Silhouette. They come with 2 sizes. I used the larger ones on the body of the deer and the smaller ones on the antlers.

5

6

I used more Power Tabs to put the beautiful Prima Flowers on the plaque. I cut the power tabs into quarters and randomly added buttons to the bottom of the shield plaque.

This project was really easy to make! It would make the perfect addition to shabby chic mantel or a vintage floral room.
