DIY “Crafter Crates”: Gift Baskets for your Creative Friends

Hello everyone, it’s Katie here! This month on the Walnut Hollow blog we are focusing on handmade gift ideas. Walnut Hollow products are so easy to customize which makes them PERFECT for gift making.

I’ve used the Rustic Totes to create what I’m calling “Crafter Crates”- They’re gift baskets filled with crafting supplies, so whoever you gift them to will be ready to get their craft on!

Supplies:

For this project I designed a .pdf of craft and art supply doodles  that you can use on the front of your crafter crates, if you want! Find it in the supply list above.

Step 1. Print out the craft supplies pattern, and place it over top of a piece of transfer paper, using a pencil to copy the patterns to the front of the rustic tote.

Step 2. Use acrylic paints and a small paintbrush to paint in your designs. Let dry.

Step 3. Use a liner paint brush and black acrylic paint to outline your designs. You can also use a fine point permanent marker for this step, but I love the look of the acrylic paints.

Step 4. Drill a 1/4″ hole into your Oval Mini Thin Plaque and paint on a word or craft saying. Let dry.

Step 5. Thread 1/4 ribbon through the hole and tie it to the rustic tote handle to hang the “gift tag”.

Fill your Crafter Crates up with a variety of craft supplies and gift them to a creative friend! Try giving the baskets themes: like a quilting basket, paper craft basket, or a lettering basket!
